Call for Programs

The AHEPPP: Family Engagement in Higher Education 2019 Conference Committee invites professional staff, faculty, community partners, and graduate students from all academic disciplines and departments to consider presenting a program at the 2019 National Conference in Portland, Oregon at the Hilton Portland Downtown November 4-6, 2019.

This year, we are excited to be Sharing our Story -- As parent & family program professionals, we know it is important to capture and share the experiences we facilitate that bring value to our institutional communities. Now is your opportunity to share this knowledge with your colleagues across the country!

Important Dates

February 25 - Educational programs proposal submission process begins

March 1 - Educational programs peer reviewer application process begins

April 5 - Deadline for peer reviewer applications

April 30 - Deadline for educational program proposals at 8pm ET (5pm PT)

Late May/Early June Notification of Selected Educational Programs

What to include in your proposal:

Educational program proposals should include specific participant learning outcomes and be grounded in both research and theoretical frameworks, if applicable. Additionally, proposals must address how the information presented can be adapted to different types and sizes of institutions.

Topics should reflect the mission of AHEPPP, which works to support professionals in higher education who promote student success through informed parent and family engagement. You may view past programs on the AHEPPP website - 2018,  2017, 2016, 2015, and 2014.

Highlighted past presentation topics include:

  • Skill-building and professional development

  • Powerful Campus Partnerships

  • Parent Giving and Fundraising

  • Assessment and analysis of parent and family programs on student success and retention

Priority Topics

Preliminary findings from the 2019 National Survey of Parent/Family Programs revealed that our AHEPPP members are most interested in learning about these trends. Please consider these priority topics:

  • Mental Health & Wellness

  • Diversity & Inclusion

  • Strategies for Supporting Parents/Families and Advocating for Students

Special consideration will be given to proposals that:

Feature collaborations with other university departments outside of parent and family programs (i.e. Dean of Students, fundraising, counseling services, orientation, etc).

Have an idea for a program? We would love to hear it! The deadline to submit an educational program proposal is 8:00 p.m. (Eastern), April 30, 2019.
